One of my favorite psychology principles is called Zipf’s Law. (commonly referred to as the Law of Least Effort) It states that when people have multiple options they choose the path of least resistance. In simplest terms, people choose the easy way instead of the hard way.
Image in you’re in the airport and you’re rushing to get to your flight on time when you have to go upstairs to get to your gate.
There is an escalator on the left that is coming down, an escalator on the right that is going up, and stairs in the middle. Almost no one takes the stairs even though they’re probably quicker than the escalator. Why? Because the escalator is easier…
By now, you’re probably wondering where I’m going with this so I’ll go ahead and get to the point.
When busy people are hungry they eat what is quick and convenient regardless if it’s healthy or not.
Even though people have good intentions about sticking to their diet, or making better nutrition choices, they inevitably fail when they’re in a hurry and there is nothing healthy that is convenient.
So, how do busy people avoid this trap?
They make healthy food accessible and quickly available!
Which brings me to the tip that I want to share with you today…
The #1 way to stick to your diet is to meal prep (prepare food/meals in advance) and then to bring your healthy meals with you wherever you go.
I’ve been doing this for years and it’s allowed me to stick to my nutrition plan when while I’m traveling or busy with work.
This cooler has been a life saver and I take it with me everywhere.
What I Love Most About This Cooler
There are a lot of different bags, coolers, and backpacks made by 6 Pack Bags, but this one is my favorite because of how much it holds. At any given time I usually keep the following in mine:
- 5 meals
- 2 shaker bottles (one for water, and another for protein, pre-workout drinks, etc.)
- A stack of napkins
- 2-3 different condiments
- Oversized freezer packs (I swapped out the ones that come with it and use Yeti Freezer Packs…they fit perfectly and last a little longer)
- 2-3 supplements (I take a Digestive Enzyme and Glucose Disposal Agent with every meal so these go with me everywhere)
As you can see, I’m a self admitted “heavy packer” and this cooler easily fits everything I need.
I refuse to spend $4.00 on a high calorie protein shake from a convenient store that is loaded with ingredients that I don’t want. So, I usually keep a few packets (or Ziploc bags) of protein powder in one of the side pockets and drink that when I’m on long road trips.
Who This Cooler Is For
By now you’re probably asking yourself if you need a cooler like this.
If you fall into one of these categories then, yes, you need one of these:
- Fitness competitor/bodybuilder
- High level athlete
- Busy working professional
- Someone who has an unpredictable schedule
- Anyone who is really serious about their health/fitness
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…your fitness level is mostly determined by your diet. Yes, yes, yes I know that training is important too, but if your diet isn’t dialed in you will NOT see the results you want.
By meal prepping and bringing your food with you you can eliminate all excuses to stop for fast food because you “don’t have time for something healthy.”
